Salim Ahmed Salim, the former secretary-general of the Organisation of African Unity, says Africa's success depends largely on how South Africa fares in the future.
Salim Ahmed Salim 前非盟秘书长表示,非洲的成功很大程度上依靠南非将来的发展。
Salim told a conference in Pretoria on South Africa's position ten years after apartheid that the country's triumph over apartheid had been a triumph for the entire continent. He said the country had contributed to significant changes in Africa in the last decade.
"It has already showed a great pioneering investment strategy where private enterprises from South Africa have been unleashed across the continent, bringing with it modern technology and economic progress to many countries."
Hundreds of delegates from all over the continent descended on the Pretoria City Hall to hear speakers discuss South Africa after a decade of democracy. Salim praised South Africa's involvement in peacekeeping efforts and its role in negotiating various peace treaties. He warned, however, not to forget where the country had come from.
